Hidden Away on the Great Ocean Road

The Rosina Beach Shack is the ultimate off-grid, eco-friendly bush retreat for those who love the privacy of a secluded location not too far from the city.

It is set on 10 acres of luscious bushland, only a few minutes away from the iconic Bells Beach, and a quick drive to some beautiful spots at the start of the Great Ocean Road. We were able to visit so many places in a really short amount of time, despite the weather being a little unpredictable, because the location of this shack is THAT good. The property's environmentally friendly set up, which was also one of our favourite aspects, didn't take away from the that feeling of comfort and luxury either.

We reached Rosina late on a Friday night after work and got nice and cosy right away. Early bedtime to catch the sunrise the following day is a must, but getting out of bed in the morning was a little challenging because the bed is seriously one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept on. But we know the best way to start the day is to watch the sunrise and go on a little hike, so we decided to visit Point Addis Marine Park, under 10 minutes away, and followed the Koorie Cultural Walk all the way to the cliffs. We made it there just in time for sunrise.

After grabbing a coffee in nearby Torquay, and stopping to watch the surf at Bells, we decided to check out the Split Point Lighthouse, which has one of the best views on the Great Ocean Road. I always try to stop here when I'm in the area – it's always beautiful, even on a rainy day.

The weather wasn't on our side, but we wanted to make the most of our time down the coast, and given rainy days are the best to visit a waterfall, we drove to Sheoak Falls, which is just past Lorne. It was an easy, 20-minute return walk in the rain and it didn't disappoint. After a jam-packed day exploring the coast, and a quick stop at HAH Lorne to grab a bite for lunch and check the surf in Fairhaven, we decided to head back to the shack to enjoy some time on the property.

We spent our time sitting by the fire, taking a bath and walking around the property, which has its very own nature walk. This is a great opportunity to spot some wildlife and a few kangaroos visited the property while we were there. The weather improved a little at night, so we headed out to Torquay for dinner and spent the rest of the evening by the fire, watching the starry sky before another super comfy sleep in the Rosina bed.

The Split Point Lookout has one of the best views on the Great Ocean Road, overlooking the Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary. I always try to stop here when I'm in the area because it's beautiful even on a rainy day. It's located in the Lorne–Queenscliff Coastal Reserve and the lighthouse and viewing platforms are just a few minutes' walk from the car park....

If you feel like going for a walk in nature, you won't even need to leave the property. The shack is set on 10 acres of bushland and has its very own nature walk. If you have a bit more time, you can also follow the Jarosite track from across the road all the way to Bells, Southside, and the Iron Bark Basin....

This is my favourite beach to visit on a rainy day. There's always a little mist coming out of the water, which makes everything look a lot more beautiful....
